As Gov. Ned Lamont weighed whether to sign controversial housing and striking workers legislation last year, some of that work unfolded on his personal email account and private cellphone, records obtained by CT Insider show.
CT Insider requested last June all emails and text messages Lamont and his chief of staff sent during the three weeks preceding his vetoes of those bills. The governor’s office in October provided emails that referenced text messages from the governor – but not the texts themselves.
The records also show Lamont forwarding emails from his state email to his private email address and communicating with his staff there. This practice is not illegal, but communication on private devices is still subject to open records laws. No search was done nor were records provided from his private email or cellphone, his office confirmed.
