Connecticut Council on Freedom of Information Expectations of Board Members

For CCFOI to be successful, it must have a dedicated, diverse, and creative group of board members.

Serving on CCFOI’s board is exciting, challenging, and rewarding. It is an honor, and one that comes with responsibilities.

As a board member, you have the authority to vote and determine the policies and initiatives that CCFOI will pursue. It is of the utmost importance that board members participate to their fullest capacity throughout their term. That involves dedicating time, energy, creativity and financial support.

Board Member Responsibilities:

  • Recognize that as a board member you have a fiduciary responsibility to the organization and its membership.
  • Give CCFOI board and committee meetings and other CCFOI activities high priority on your calendar.
  • Prioritize attendance at significant CCFOI events, such as the annual awards program.
  • Stay informed about topics that are of interest to CCFOI and the subject of board decisions and bring your own experience, expertise, and ideas to board discussions.
  • Be an ambassador and proponent of CCFOI to the general public.
  • Recognize that fundraising is an essential function of the board. It is important for all board members to contribute to CCFOI to the best of their ability and participate in fundraising efforts.
