Present: Mike Savino, Michele Jacklin, Kim Phillips, Mary Connolly, Jeff Daniels, Mitch Pearlman, Liz Gemski, Tom Scheffey, Chris Powell, Colleen Murphy, Paula Pearlman.
The minutes of the Dec. 15, 2021 meeting were accepted.
Treasurer’s report: Phillips reported a balance of $16,110.45.
Legislative report: Gemski reported legislative hearings will be virtual for now, depending on the COVID situation. Murphy asked for input on defining a fix on the use of hand-held scanners to copy public documents. She suggested not getting into the issue of fees.
President’s report: Savino discussed how to publicize the new Yale study on algorithmic accountability. The Yale law school students were stonewalled by state agencies. Officials were unwilling to share information on how algorithms are being used in public policy decisions. The report will be posted on the CCFOI website, ccfoi.com, and the Connecticut Foundation for Open Government website, ctfog.org.
Looking ahead: The next CCFOI meeting will be Feb. 16, 2022 at noon, via Zoom.
