CCFOI Meeting Minutes – December 19, 2018

The meeting was at Wood-n-Tap, 99 Sisson Ave., Hartford.

Present: Mike Savino, Zach Janowski, Michele Jacklin, Mitch Pearlman, Chris Powell, Gary Gold, Liz Gemski

Savino called the meeting to order at 12:20 p.m. 

Savino gave a brief legislative president’s report, notifying the board that Matt DeRienzo, vice president of news for Hearst Connecticut, has expressed his support for the group.

Treasurer George Lombardi was not present for a treasurer’s report.  

Jacklin and Gremski provided a legislative update for the board, discussing possible committee assignments for the Government Administration and Elections Committee. Committee assignments haven’t been finalized yet.

The board discussed its priorities for the upcoming legislative session. The board moved to approve the following priorities: Preserving the Freedom of Information Commission’s budget allocation, restoring funds for transcripts of legislative public hearings, barring the practice of public employee unions getting FOI exemptions into contracts, gaining access to historical medical records maintained by the state.

Other priorities: Identifying allies who can propose and advocate for our priorities, improving public access to the juvenile court system, expanding transparency for the University of Connecticut Foundation, improving transparency of algorithms.

The motion passed unanimously.

The board offered a heartfelt condolence to Jane Murphy of Murtha Culina.

Savino moved to adjourn the meeting at 2 p.m. Motion passed unanimously.
