The meeting was at Wood-n-Tap, 99 Sisson Ave., Hartford.
Present: Matt Kauffman, Mitch Pearlman, Chris Powell, Paula Pearlman, Liz Gemski, Jeff Daniels, Mary Connolly, Colleen Murphy, Gary Gold, Tom Scheffey.
The minutes of the Jan. 15, 2020 meeting were accepted.
Treasurer’s report: Kauffman, chairing the meeting in Savino’s absence and reporting on information from Treasurer George Lombardi, the balance is just under $3,000.
Legislative report: Gemski reported on meetings with legislators. There have been discussions about the Dalio public/private partnership organized to help struggling schools, with questionable secrecy.
New England First Amendment Coalition: Executive Director Justin Silverman attended the meeting to discuss our shared interests. Silverman said the coalition is looking for opportunities to work together. CCFOI and the First Amendment Coalition sponsor their own school education projects.
Reporters Committee for Freedom of the Press: Connecticut was not chosen for its new Local Legal Initiative. The states selected were Colorado, Oklahoma, Oregon, Pennsylvania and Tennessee. The Yale Media and Law Clinic services remain available to Connecticut news organizations.
Looking ahead: The next CCFOI meeting will be March 18 at noon.
