Jodie Gil

Jodie Gil has served as a board member of CCFOI since 2023.

She teaches journalism and digital media courses at Southern Connecticut State University, where she is also co-adviser to the student magazine and adviser to the SCSU Society of Professional Journalists. Gil previously served as president and treasurer of the Connecticut Pro Chapter of SPJ.

Her research interests include state open records laws and teaching with digital tools; She has published on the topics in academic journals, including The Journal of Civic Information. Gil co-authored a paper on home address exemptions in state open records laws, which won first place in the research contest hosted by the National Freedom of Information Coalition.

Prior to teaching, Gil worked as a news reporter for The Hartford Courant, the Waterbury Republican-American and the Valley Independent Sentinel, a non-profit news site she helped launch in 2009.
