Jacqueline Smith

Jacqueline Smith, treasurer of CCFOI since 2022, is the ombudsman for Stars and Stripes news organization, which covers the U.S. military community around the world. The position, created by Congress, protects Stripes’ First Amendment rights and independence.

She founded Rock Ledge Press, an independent book publisher, and is a freelance writer and editor.

Smith is a veteran journalist. She’s been a reporter at The Hartford Courant, The Day of New London, and the New Haven Register, assistant managing editor of the Record- Journal (Meriden) and managing editor of The News-Times (Danbury) where she became an editorial page editor and weekly columnist for Hearst Connecticut Media Group. She also was an assistant professor of journalism at Southern Connecticut State University.

She lives in Bethel with her husband, James H. Smith, a retired journalist and former president of CCFOI. She is passionate about the First Amendment and transparency in government.
