Connecticut Council on Freedom of Information
Minutes, Dec. 20, 2022
The meeting was via Zoom.
Present: Mike Savino, Tom Scheffey, Jacqueline Smith, Mary Connolly, Jeff Daniels, Michele Jacklin, Mitch Pearlman, Gary Gold, Chris Powell, Colleen Murphy, Liz Gemski.
The minutes of the Nov. 16, 2022 meeting were accepted.
Treasurer’s report: Smith reported a balance of $9,636.78.
Annual awards luncheon: There was discussion of the timing and format. The cost of a luncheon ticket and the timing of a mid-day event present a challenge to attract attendees. The creation of an awards program by the Connecticut Foundation for Open Government has created another challenge. There was agreement CCFOI and CFOG should work together to avoid any appearance of a competition between the two organizations. Savino will contact CFOG officials on this. In addition, a subcommittee was appointed to propose changes for the CCFOI awards event. Savino, Scheffey and Smith were appointed.
Legislative report: Gemski reported on preparations for the 2023 legislative session. Murphy reported FOIC will urge support for the same package of changes as last year: technical changes, clarifications on government functions, and expanding the definition of hand-held scanners in copying public documents.
Looking forward: The next CCFOI meeting will be Jan. 18, 2023 at 9 a.m. via Zoom.
